Stopped working. Impossible to access my data (family photos). A disaster. Recommend buying two ordinary external USB drives and not this junk.
I bought this product for use with the WD HD Media player, but they don’t work together. Why? Quite simply because this My Book World Edition ONLY HAS AN ETHERNET CONNECTION. The USB connection only allows you to connect additional drives to the world book, not the world book to your computer (or the WD HD Media player).
This basically means that your access times to your files are severly limited by your network speeds, which are painfully slow relative to USB. Maybe I should have done more research, but I was very dissappointed by the lack of connectivity.
The product is performing well. I am getting the results I expected. I was able to connect three of our computers and are using it a a central library.
After 8 months I’ve replaced this drive twice (Of course I lost all the data).
Tech support is very efficient sending me REFURBISHED replacement drives that die, so I WILL NEVER buy Western Digital again.
When you receive this from amazon and you open the box you will see on the box “easy to install in 1-2-3″
This is not true. Now to be fare I’m not tech savvy but the reviews and all the demos that WD show say you don’t have to be so I bought it.
Now I have at&t dsl and windows vista and I was unable to discover the device…….it just kept saying device indiscoverable
So I decide to call there tech support to help me set this up and you would not believe how unhelpfully they were. The guy on the phone took me trough 4 different steps and then he said that i either need to call Microsoft or go buy a different cords…..now once you habg up the phone they guy at WD says that you have 30 days from this call to use the there set up service when they did not even fix my problem. I then go out buy a new cord and then called customer service and then the guy on the phone still could not help me set this up. I asked to be transfered to the manager and the manager said all they can do is have me pay to mail it back and they would send me a new one
basically this thing is a nightmare for a no computer person……I mean if there own tech support cant help you set it up then how are you going to be able to set this up???
